Logsdon Ridge Vineyard (aka Rudolfo in honor of the Rudolph family
who owns it) is a small 10 acre vineyard planted entirely to Pinot
Gris just north of Corvallis. Dai has managed this site since
2001. It is a single upright trellis system with 9 x 5 spacing.
It is a warm, low elevation site that ripens the fruit very early.
Its crop level over the last three years has been 3 to 4 tons
to the acre. The vineyard supplies 6 clients including Lumos, Ransom, R.
Stuart & Co., Pheasant
Court, Belle
Vallee and Union
Wines
Dai grows all of the Lumos fruit, here and at Wren and Temperance
Hill, using Oregon Tilth Organic Certification standards. All
materials used in the vineyards are OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute) certified or Tilth approved. He uses mechanical cultivation
rather than herbicides and usually does two jobs at once, like
mowing while in-row cultivating, to increase the efficiency of
fuel and tractor use. All the handwork is done by a 13 man crew,
the core of which has been with Dai since 1999. |
